This pipe was inspired by my parents migrant work, that they did with my grandparents and their siblings. I am so proud of them for the work they did, it taught them so much about being appreciative and hard working. From vegetables to fruit, they harvested it! I wanted to honor them and all the field workers from the RGV, for them to know their dedication and hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. Another inspiration comes from our culture, giving fruit is to show love. When my mother would cut up watermelon or oranges for us, all that work was done with love, and it starts with harvesting it. That is why this piece is called “The fruit of our Labor” - Yvette Olvera
