Arbor Bear Keeps McAllen Beautiful Original

History of Arbor Bear

Arbor Bear made its first appearance during the 2015 McAllen’s Christmas for Kids Parade as a giant bear sporting a very cool Arbor Day Celebration event t-shirt. The children in the crowd immediately fell in love with our fluffy friend and started interacting with it. Keep McAllen Beautiful (KMB) started seeking out opportunities on how to introduce Arbor Bear in an educational and enjoyable setting. It was clear how popular our bear became especially with the young crowd. Arbor Bear’s name was chosen out of one of KMB’s most important events; the Arbor Day Celebration. Arbor Day is a day when we celebrate nature’s gift of trees, the tall providers of shade, fruit, fun, and a habitat for many different kinds of wildlife. The event is a fun-filled day where anyone can join in a timed 5K or 10K run, a Kids 1 Mile Run, a 25 Mile or 100K Bike Tour, take part in an Educational Tree Workshop and educational booths. After careful consideration, the decision was made to introduce Arbor Bear as KMB’s official mascot.
