The inspiration for my artwork stemmed from the classic game of loteria, featuring iconic symbols from the Rio Grande Valley. The beauty of our flora is enhanced by the annual migration of monarch butterflies, while the abundance of palm trees is a clear indicator that one is in the valley. Additionally, the citrus orchards that the valley is renowned for, evoke a sense of nostalgia for those who have grown up in the region, as the scent of citrus lingers on their clothes even after leaving the orchard. The artwork is a testament to the richness and diversity of the valley's culture and natural beauty. - Siria Carrasco
Siria is an Artist with Honduran heritage and is a 1st generation American. Born with a physical disability, art was a way to cope with the pain of multiple surgeries and hospitalizations. As she was recovering from her surgeries, she was constantly doodling, coloring, and overall trying to be as creative as possible given the circumstances. Born and raised in McAllen, Texas, she was constantly surrounded by ‘Tex-Mex’ culture which served as inspiration for many of her artworks. Siria currently runs her own Etsy Store called La Leona Studios which features some of her artwork. There are still more projects yet to come, so stay tuned!
